“Why I Wanted to Learn to Scuba Dive”: An Interview with a 10-Year-Old Diver.
To celebrate International Youth Day, PADI asked Dorian who is 10 years old, to talk about his diving experiences and his adventures so far. Dorian, who is Germany, recently qualified as a Junior Open Water Diver.
Why did a 10-year-old want to Learn to Scuba Dive?
Dorian simply loves scuba diving; it maybe has something to do with his mother who happens to be a PADI AmbassaDiver and inspired me to try it. Ok, his mother dives but it doesn’t mean that as a parent you must dive to allow your kids too!
It a great way for you kids, boys and girls to learn new skill, build confidence, have adventures and make new friends. To read more about our Try Dive experience here.
My First Dive
Ok, Dorian went to the Maldives and tried it out, and I loved it. It is amazing what lives underwater. From colourful corals to amazing fish. Before he started diving, he wanted to see the big stuff like mantas.
It doesn’t matter if you are into the big stuff or the small stuff there is a place for you. All you need is your PADI, the passport to the underwater world. For more details about getting certified follow this is link. https://www.waterhoppers.com/programmes/padi-courses/introduction
Did you know it can be completed in only 2 days, for not much more than a Try Dive, but you will dive for longer and get better value for money! Plus, it’s for life, not just one day!
eLearning and Knowledge Review
Like Dorian at the age of 10 -years- old you can become a PADI junior Open Water diver, this takes 3 to 4 days, including shallow water training, open water dives and some eLearning with knowledge reviews. Dorian said the eLearning and questions were not so tricky. Then he just answered the multiple-choice questions on the final test. Then, reviewed the hazards with my PADI Instructor. Of course, they are easy to avoid; you just have to be careful.
In the Water
Dorian discovered amazing views, shallow depths and clear visibility (very much like we have in Kalithea).
As part of the PADI Junior Open Water Course, he did 5 dives and completed all aspects of the training, allowing him to dive anywhere in the world for the rest of his life.
So, Thank You, PADI
