We were so lucky to have https://www.thescubanews.com dive with us last week along with the "The Diabetic Diver", continuing his diver education. Below is a quick snapshot the full article. After successfully completing his Open Water course Sam Stimpson, AKA The Diabetic Diver, continued his scuba education with The Waterhoppers. His journey started in London with a PADI Discover Scuba Diving Session and his passion for diving has only grown from that first underwater breath. Waterhoppers, a PADI 5 star IDC Center established in 1978, was an obvious choice for further training due to its stellar reputation. With special medical considerations necessary for his condition, Sam underwent a thorough medical examination at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Portsmouth to ensure safe diving. Despite the initial concerns about managing Type 1 diabetes while diving in a hot climate, Sam's advanced training has been smooth, thanks to the supportive and flexible approach of the Waterhoppers team. Waterhoppers provided exceptional training, accommodating Sam's needs regarding dive times, breaks, and overall health management. His instructor, Michael Wright, was not only knowledgeable and patient but also genuinely interested in how Sam managed his condition. The dive boat days were well-organized and enjoyable, with vibrant team members like Sharon ensuring everyone's safety and fun. The diving community on the boat, including professional photographer Paul Noakes, added to the enriching experience with shared stories and stunning underwater photography. Sam's journey demonstrates that with the right support and determination, scuba diving is an achievable and rewarding pursuit for individuals with medical conditions. The experience has been inspiring, showcasing that barriers can be overcome, making the achievements even more spectacular.
