Instructor Development Course

The Instructor Development Course (IDC) consists of 2 parts:

1. Assistant Instructor (AI) course

2. Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI). To become PADI OWSI, you must then participate in the Instructor Examination (IE).

• 24 Diving Skills “Skill Evaluation”

• Self-study PADI IDC eLearning

• Workshops in the classroom

• 1 further theory presentations of the candidate

• 2 further pool presentations of the candidates

• 1 further integrated (2 skills) open water presentation of the candidate

• 1 theory examination

• Assessment of water skills

• 3 Rescue Exercise

Course requirements:

• PADI Divemaster

• At least 60 logged dives and 100 dives to attend an IE

• Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care (CPR and First Aid) training within the past 24 months

• A medical statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months

• You also need to be an EFR Instructor. You can earn this rating during your instructor training

Instructor Specialties

Career opportunities in the diving industry are increasing rapidly, but so is the competitive pressure, especially when it comes to interesting job and income opportunities. For the good jobs, it is necessary that you have special qualifications as an instructor. That's where the PADI specialty courses come in. In the Specialty Instructor course, you will receive valuable tips on how to carry out and market the programs. And the best thing is: You can teach the specialties immediately and do not have to wait until you have certified 25 diving students!

PADI IDC Staff Instructor (IDCS)

As an IDC staff instructor, you'll help train the next generation of PADI instructors while gaining deep insights into the training of future instructors. You'll participate in a complete IDC and learn a lot about instructor candidate development and evaluation, the IDC process, and the PADI training system. After the training you can train the Assistant Instructor course and assist Course Directors in the PADI IDC as a staff.

For many dive center jobs as a manager in resorts, the experience and education level of the IDC staff instructor is expected, and therefore the IDCS course is an important step if you are thinking of making a career in a dive center or want to open your own dive shop or resort.

PADI IDC-Staff Instructor – Requirements for participation:

• Min. PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer,

• at least 2 years PADI Instructor,

• medical certificate,

• complete own equipment.
